Koningsdag is one day. But at Joy Dance Lab, we turned it into a whole week of celebrations.

Every class this week was a little extra — orange flower crowns at the door, golden canes, silk veils in the colours of the Dutch flag, and a studio full of women who showed up with energy, laughter, and a whole lot of orange. This is what our Eindhoven belly dance community looks like when it celebrates.

A Whole Week of Orange, Dance & Community

There was no single big event — just the regular weekly classes, transformed. Each group brought their own flavour to the Koningsdag spirit.

Some classes danced with golden canes (raks assaya), posing like royalty and making each other laugh when the canes had their own ideas. Others swept the studio with silk veils in brilliant orange and pink, their movements catching the light in the most beautiful way. Every class had its own energy, its own moment — and Joy was there for all of it, leading from the front in orange.

What came through in every single class was the same thing: pure joy. Not the performance kind. The real kind — the kind that happens when women feel free to move, to play, and to be themselves.

Every Body, Every Level, Every Week

One of the things that makes these photos so special is how different everyone looks — and how equally radiant they all are. Beginners and advanced dancers side by side. Different styles, different backgrounds, different ages. All wearing sequins and smiling at the mirror like they own it.

That's not an accident. It's what belly dance does, and it's what Joy Dance Lab has been building since day one. A space in Eindhoven where women don't come to be judged — they come to feel good.

Why Koningsdag Belongs on the Dance Floor

Koningsdag is about freedom. About being out in the streets, celebrating life, feeling part of something bigger. Belly dance is exactly that same spirit — just indoors, with hip scarves and a mirror wall.

There's something fitting about celebrating the king's day with a dance form that has always belonged to women. Belly dance has been a space for female joy, connection, and self-expression for centuries. Bringing that into Koningsdag week felt completely natural.
